My grandmother missed out on the opportunity to go to college because “girls didn’t go to college” in her day. My mom was unable to go to a math and science magnet school because only boys were allowed to attend. I was fortunate that these two amazing women raised me to believe that girls and women can do anything! However, the real world is not that simple. Girls face challenges everyday that can derail their dreams, but with Girls Inc. of Long Island, we are training future leaders by teaching them how to make change in their communities, to study the media with a critical eye and set them up for financial success. I’m proud to be a part of the board and helping girls across Long Island be strong, smart, and bold!
