Nyrekia White is the Fund Development Manager of Girls Inc. of Long Island. Nyrekia most recently worked as a Talent & Organization Development Business Consultant for several nonprofit organizations in Long Island, Harlem, Washington DC, and Denver where she has led cradle-to-career and college preparatory programming, senior services programming, oversaw early learn/expanded learning time programming and a tier II family homeless shelter, planned staffing realignment initiatives and nurtured strategic external partnerships which have resulted in funding support.
Nyrekia has a competitive success rate in securing funding, much of which has gone to support youth programs and college scholarships. She has managed successful campaigns, including some resulting in significant funding for scholarships, STEM programs and college & career readiness programs. She also has been successful at obtaining major in-kind contributions from corporations and foundations.
Nyrekia has always involved herself in programs and organizations which support youth development and empowerment, specifically for disadvantaged populations. As a high-achieving high-schooler, she wanted to give back. Nyrekia researched college financial aid and scholarship opportunities for youth in the I Have A Dream Foundation in Westchester, NY and during college she was a tutor and classroom note taker for students in the HEOP Program.
In addition to serving on the girlFRIENDS junior board for two years, Nyrekia has been a Program Manager/Mentor for VISTAS in the AmeriCorps program in Harlem. During her undergraduate studies, Nyrekia spent a semester in London researching the thesis for her Social Work Minor. Her intensive work investigated the social services system in the U.K. and its impact on homelessness. While there, she served as a social work intern at St. Botolph’s, a centre for homeless youth in London’s Aldgate neighborhood.
During her career, Nyrekia has also held positions as Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships & Program Delivery and Director of Human Resources and Operations. She devotes her time to supporting the interests of her two children and volunteering at school and at various community organizations.
Nyrekia has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in Non-School Settings with a Social Work concentration from LIU Post and also holds dual Masters Degrees in Business Administration and Human Resources Management. Nyrekia is also a Certified Professional Life and Business Coach.
