From October 4 through November 1, high school girls met weekly at the Boys and Girls Club of the Bellport Area for the Art, Yoga, and Social Justice Institute. During the 5-week program they learned different ways to express themselves about the issues that are important to them through yoga and art.
Each session, girls practiced yoga, meditation, and self-awareness techniques. The girls learned how to use visual art and poetry to share their feelings on social justice issues, such as immigration. They created personal mandalas, poems, and self-portraits with empowering quotes. The girls also learned how to use self-defense techniques to create personal boundaries, both verbally and physically.
