Girls Inc. of Long Island Celebrates Two Decades of Empowering Girls and Embraces New Leadership Chapter

Deer Park, NY – Girls Inc. of Long Island, an esteemed affiliate of Girls Inc., proudly celebrates nearly 20 years of transformative impact in the community, empowering young girls to be “Strong, Smart, and Bold.” Recognized for its innovative programs and outstanding contributions, Girls Inc. of Long Island has been a beacon of empowerment, fostering leadership skills in young girls through direct service and advocacy.

Under the visionary leadership of Executive Director Renee Flagler, Girls Inc. of Long Island has expanded its reach by 30% across Long Island school sites, serving approximately 1,000 girls annually. Renee’s decade-long tenure has elevated the organization’s visibility and impact both locally and nationally, earning national recognition within the Girls Inc. Network. Her efforts have opened doors to unique opportunities for middle and high school girls, including mentoring days, hackathons, conferences, high-profile campaigns, and peer engagement with other affiliates. Many alumnae have achieved academic and professional success, attending prestigious HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges & Universities), securing federal research positions, and interning with the U.S. Department of State.

Renee Flagler will now embark on a new journey as President of a national non-profit organization, expanding her commitment to serving youth in underinvested communities. The Board of Directors is conducting an extensive search to identify a future Executive Director who will represent and champion Girls Inc. of Long Island’s core principles, mission, and values.

During this transition, Monica Kim will serve as the interim Executive Director. Monica, currently the Head of Operations at Girls Inc. of Long Island, brings a wealth of expertise and a deep understanding of the organization’s mission. Her experience at both Girls Inc. National and Girls Inc. of Long Island, coupled with her personal connection as a mother of a Girls Inc. of Long Island alumna, positions her uniquely to lead during this period.

The organization is confident that under Monica’s interim leadership, the organization will continue to thrive, ensuring girls receive the highest quality of support, mentorship, and education. The board of directors and staff remain steadfast in their commitment to empowering the next generation, continually driving the organization’s mission forward.
