As a girls empowerment organization we take seriously not just developing the leadership skills, but also the voices of the girls we serve, as well as giving them tools and introducing them to various ways they can share their voices.
During a recent “Girls Breaking Barriers” 6-week workshop, girls deconstructed media messaging around rape culture and then re-created it by crafting a PSA representing their own thoughts about the issue. The girls selected the topic after looking at pressing concerns and trends in their own community. The PSA was entirely scripted and developed by the girls themselves.
