Summer Programs

Girls Inc. of Long Island Summer Programs provide opportunities for middle and high school girls to learn, express themselves, and have fun during summer months all while inspiring them to be Strong, Smart, and Bold. 

Summer programs give girls opportunities to explore their interests, discover new passions, develop friendships, and gain practical life-skills needed to navigate the highs and lows of growing up as a female teen. Programs are led by a combination of Girls Inc. Program Facilitators, guest speakers, and partner organizations. 

 

Important Information

Open to girls entering grades 6-12 as of 2024-25 school year, no exceptions
Each week-long camp is $100 per girl or $275 for all three weeks
Scholarships Available
Lunch & Snacks Provided
Bus Transportation provided from select stops, as indicated on the registration form

2024 Summer Programs

July 8-12

Girls Inc. at Brookhaven National Lab Scientific Computing

Middle School, grades 6-8

9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Location: Brookhaven National Lab, Upton, NY
Bus Stops: Westbury High School, United Way Long Island, Brentwood Library

Program led by Brookhaven National Laboratory Staff and Girls Inc. Staff.  

Girls will learn about and write Python code to explore cryptography (secret codes), 2D and 3D graphics, computational science, and puzzles. Girls will learn about the algorithms used by Brookhaven scientists and apply them to modern research challenges. No prior programming experience required to participate. View Sample Schedule

July 15-19

Girls Inc. at Brookhaven National Lab Using Art to Discover Science

Middle School, grades 6-8

9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

 

Location: Brookhaven National Lab, Upton, NY
Bus Stops: Westbury High School, United Way Long Island, Brentwood Library

 

Program led by Brookhaven National Laboratory Staff and Girls Inc. Staff.  

Every year scientists at the Center for Functional Nanomaterials hold a contest to find the most beautiful nano-sized images of scientific data, results, or discoveries, created in their labs. In this workshop, you can be just like them! You will learn how to use sculpture, computer assisted design, and more to study current science research at Brookhaven Lab. The week will culminate with an art showcase on the last day. View Sample Schedule

Girls Inc. Volleyball

Middle School, grades 6-8* 

High School, grades 9-12*

9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

*Middle & High School Girls will be grouped accordingly by grade level

 

Location: Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf, Mill Neck, NY
Nassau Bus Stops: Henry Waldinger Memorial Library, Westbury High School

Suffolk Bus Stops: United Way Long Island, Brentwood Public Library

 

Program led by AAU (Amatuer Athletic Union) Instructors and Girls Inc. Staff.  

Girls will be instructed in a fun, activity-based, group setting by experienced Volleyball Instructors on the basics of the sport. By the end of the week, girls will know the rules, etiquette, and how to play the game. Expect some friendly competition. In signature Girls Inc. fashion, girls will also build communication, teamwork, and leadership skills through Girls Inc. activities led by Program Facilitators. No experience is needed, instead bring a healthy and positive learning attitude. Be strong, be bold…let’s meet at the net!

The Girls Inc. Experience Week 1

High School, grades 9-12

9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Location: Nassau Community College, Garden City, NY
Suffolk Bus Stops: United Way of Long Island (Deer Park), Brentwood Library

 

Program led by Girls Inc. Staff.  

Girls will explore a variety of topics through our signature activity-based ‘Girls Inc. Experience’. Expect to tackle issues including: navigating high school, self-image, healthy relationships, leveling up your money, and more. Includes 1 field trip. View Sample Schedule

July 15-19

The Girls Inc. Experience Week 2

High School, grades 9-12
