About Us

Our Story

Girls Incorporated® of Long Island was founded in 2005 as an affiliate of the nationally recognized Girls Incorporated®, a non-profit organization serving only girls with roots dating back to 1864. Girls Inc. of Long Island responds to the changing needs of girls and their communities through the implementation of research-based programs and advocacy that empower girls to reach their full potential and to understand, value, and assert their rights.

Girls Inc. of Long Island founders included a diverse group of women who saw the need to bring gender-specific programs to the girls on Long Island in order to foster equity and hope for the future.

Our Mission

The mission of Girls Inc. of Long Island is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold. We provide school and community based programming that serves the unique needs of girls, ages 5-18, living in Suffolk and Nassau Counties. Through community partnerships, we help girls to achieve their full potential, making their future brighter. Girls Inc. of Long Island is dedicated to the advocacy of gender equity for all girls in all areas of their lives. Through participation in our programs, girls learn the skills to become leaders in their communities, leading to exponential change.

Our Vision

Girls Inc. of Long Island envisions empowered girls and an equitable Long Island community.

For the first time in history, we can state with certainty that our next generation of leaders will be a generation of women leaders—particularly women leaders of color, many of whom will start out at a socioeconomic disadvantage. This means that more girls, and more girls of color, need to be prepared to step into leadership roles.

That’s where Girls Inc. of Long Island comes in.

Our Impact

Girls who participate in the Girls Inc. of Long Island experience have an advantage over their peers in more than 20 key areas.
